hello to all
« on: 15 January 2009, 15:17 »
Hi, just thought i'd say a quick hello in the MK4 section as i'm in the market for a V6 4Motion, had a mK2 16v many years ago and it is still the best car i ever owned...

I just have a couple of Q's, firstly i may and go and look at this V6 tomorrow does anyone know anything about it? Long shot i know but thought i'd ask as it's a fair few miles away (obviously i wouldnt be offering the amount there asking for if i was interested)

I spoke to the bloke and he said it has 12 months MOT & 6 months tax (as i know thats not in the ad)

http://www.swanseycarschorley.co.uk/stock.html

Secondly am i right in thinking that the tax on one of these registered after 1 March 2001 will no longer be £400 from 1 April 2010 according to the pre-budget report in November or am i wrong?

Quote: K*
 201-225
 £210
 £215
 £245

*Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These cars will stay in band K.

Don't know about that particular one, but bought a x reg one in October.  I specifically went for x because anything after March 2001 would have been in the £450 tax bracket.

However, you are correct - it's changed again.  It is still more for the one you're looking at, but no where near £450.

This might make more sense if you look at it on the site I got it from - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=18513

I love mine, but looked at 6 or 7 all over the south of England before finding it.  Some of them are absolute sheds - in fact a blue one I went to look at in Gloucester (350 mile round trip) sounded like a bag of spanners when it started, smoked like an old diesel and had been averaging 6mpg over the last 200+ miles.

-  Don't worry about the "toothed belt" not being ticked off on the service history as it's got a timing chain.

-  Check the heated seats work on all 5 settings and not only on 5 (turn them to 1 first and check they warm up - and get progressivly warmer until 5 scorches your arse).  Otherwise it's new switches - the leather seat switches are notorious for failing.

-  Check the trip computer.  I get an average of about 25mpg - like I said, the dog above had 6mpg.

Mine was £3850, with 60K, 6 months T&T + private plate.

Forgot to mention mine had also just had £980 spent on a service, 4 new tyres, coil pack and a couple of other bits.

Since I've owned it, the alternator packed up but apart from that it's been awesome.

Learn where your petrol stations are - you'll be in them all the time.

Cheers for the replies,

Not sure if it comes with any warranty but will ask, the bloke i spoke to said it had just had £1200 spent on it with a service, new clutch, wishbone an ABS sensor and something to do with the ESP. Sounds like quite a bit of work ! ! !

Thats what i thought about the tax, i had looked up on it but was just making sure as £400 is taking the p*ss. Robbing feckers.

Cheers for all the advice on what to look for i will take with me and check it all out, makes me feel better that i'm not the only one doing stupid miles to go look at a car
