16v running probs
« on: 18 June 2003, 14:53 »
Afternoon all!  This is my first post on this site as I am not actually a Golf owner (I have a Fiat Coupe 16v Turbo 8)) but I'm on here on behalf of a friend who has an N-reg, 16v Mark 3 (I think its mark 3 anyway).  He is having a problem with what can only be described as 'juddering' at high and low speeds. It started intermitantly but has progressed to all the time, at high and low revs! :-[
It has been taken to Whyke VW in Chichester an several occasions and has been on the diagnosis machine with no joy.  They have replaced the leads and plugs, fuel regulator pipe, fuel filter and rotor arm with no joy whatsoever!!! :'(
This is really getting expensive now and I am worried about his sanity!!!

Please help!!!!

As a guess, if its like the Mk2, which it should be, there is a timing crystal that could cause this.

I have no idea whats its called, but on a Mk2 its under the drivers wiper in the engine bay.

Source from VW for a quiet life. The Lucas part we originally used did not cure the problem, but the VW sourced part did.

Regards,
Justin
