Locking Wheel Nuts
« on: 03 December 2008, 09:13 »
AGGGhhhh!

I had my tyres changed about 5 months ago and they must have kept hold of the locking wheel nut for my monza II's and the other bit that pulls the caps off.

The car is at an independent garage this morning having the brake pads and CV boot changed and they are not going to be able to do this now as no wheel nut!

How do I get another one? Are they all the same or are they coded/individual?

Stupid question but are you 100% sure the garage 5 months ago didn't just put it back in the car somewhere? the glove box? the spare wheel bit, the ash tray, arm rest?

a few times i thought i'd left mine at the garage and they had just put it back in the car somewhere.

fingers crossed.

I assume you've checked for it next to the spare wheel?

iirc there are only about 9 combinations for the Mk5 wheel lock. The AA and RAC breakdown vans usually carry keys for all combinations.

Slightly off topic but does anyone have a link to a reasonably priced new set of McGard High Security Wheel nuts for the Golf Mk V ?  When tighteneing my existing ones up, the metal has sheared slightly and I could'nt fully tighten them without the lock slipping off the nut   :undecided:

Contact McGard in Germany via email and they will send you out a new key for a small cost provided you have the key number (it was on a small slip of paper that came with the nuts).

VW will be able to find the 'key' for your car and order one. About £15 though. I got one here as i bought on for my old car then found the one that was 'lost'
