Leaky roof!
« on: 06 December 2008, 12:41 »
My Rivage has a problem with the roof, in that although it doesn't leak when the car is standing still, the water starts to come through once you start to drive it. It's odd as it seems to store up the water somehow and the water comes out and drops down on to the passenger seat. It leaks from the hinge mechanism bit above the window (sorry to be vague but I'm a bit of a girl and am not very technical!). I've had it in at 2 garages (including VW) and no one seems to know how to fix it. I end up with a wet passenger and the footwell behind the seat is getting soaked too. Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks

The side tension wires that pull the roof tight on the car could be worn and slack. Or the roof material is worn and needs replacing. Or the rubbers need replacing.

Garage should of spotted the rubbers though.

if you look at the sides of the hood as it goes over the top of the door glass, it should be flush like this:

not like this:

If that is ok check out the seal along the top of the windscreen, they are usually past their best by now, and have a good look at the top of the front door seal where it meets the hood upper seal, and also check all the hood seals.

You can sometimes tighten up the from locking handles a bit, but dont go too mad or you'll put strain on the J hooks!  If you loosen off the lock nut and thread in the J hook 1 turn at a time this will pull the hood tighter to the screen.  It should still be pretty easy to shut the roof though, if it takes a struggle then they're too tight

Had a similar problem on my Rivage as that leaked into the passenger seat when I set off after it had been raining. Missus wasn't too chuffed one cold morning when it went down the back of her neck. :lipsrsealed: I did attempt to fix it but I don't know if I did as I sold it soon after (not because of the leak, honest). Anyway, if I remember correctly I undid the screws on the front part of the roof frame slghtly and put some clear sealant around the frame and did the screws up again. If you park your car on an incline of any sort then I also found that it leaked less when it was parked facing up.
......now officially dubless.
