Interior Boot help please
« on: 24 November 2008, 13:48 »
Hi,

I am trying to remove the rear boot badge to swap it for my already white wormed badge (bought one cheap and its out of warranty) but cant remove the interior plastic which sits on the inside of the boot, I have removed the two screws which are in the internal handle but its nowhere near coming free.

Where do I got to locate the remainder of the screws etc that holds the plastic the inside of the boot?

Any help would be gratefully received, many thanks

If its the newer two piece badge you do not need to remove the whole handle. The silver VW emblem comes away from the core. See the last two pages of the Carbon Badge buy stickie

EDIT: probably a stupid reply as if you have white worm you obviously have the earlier one piece badge!!  :embarassed:

Its a 2005 boot handle being replaced by a newer indented version, so is this even possible? I just assumed it would be oops?!

The boot hadle has three holes for screws at the back of it to attach it to the car boot so assumed I'd be attacking it from the back of the badge, not sure now doh  :undecided:

cheers

once youve removed the 2 screws, remove the light acess panels each side and start separating the panel at sides once you have popped the side clips squeeze your fingers in around boot latch and unpop the middle and gradually lever the panel downwards the last few clips will pull out which are located under window in corners just dont drop the panel on rear bumper because when they un pop they just drop, i changed my rear handle today for the later type took bout 30mins all in

This should help. It also applies if you have the older "flat" badge too

cheers for all the help I reckon I can give it a go now and will leave the interior alone now I know you can swap the badge, if anyone needs the badge mechanism I am open to offers, obviously this wont have the badge on as the old one is white wormed,
thanks again

I gave this a go at the weekend, its the old style badge (2005) and I managed to just take off the silver emblem (full non see through type)and also removed the newer badge version from the new mechanism.

But now I am left with either the choice of putting the new badge on and having plastic holes behind as the new type is different so there are holes between the v and w this now leaves the black background visible through the badge where the holes are where as the previous one was just a full cap type (but white wormed).

So I will have to try get at the back of it and swap the whole badge or come up with some other idea, if anyone knows how to take the boot plastic off from the inside as I am stuck trying to sort that also

Hopefully one of you guys can relate to what I mean as I'm not sure if I've explained it right, now the car has no rear badge on and am at a loss, heelllpppp.

Cheers

Why not use some vinyl to cover the whole base and then put the new badge on. You could even colour code the vinyl to the car

thats not a bad idea, nice one!! That would be a miles easier solution as the badges are the same size.

Where would I get the vinyl from?
