Aftermarket seats
« on: 25 November 2008, 21:57 »
I checked the search section and didn't find what i was looking for.
My mk2 seats are a bit fooked and I am be thinking be done with it and get some recaro or other brand  Reclining Sport Seats, wondering if anyone has gone down this route? I take it its just a matter of cutting the old seat mounts out and fitting the aftermarket brackets/guides
Any pics would be good to, thinking of these

They are lovely seats, but thats big bucks. How about getting something like Mk4 Recaro's and having them welded up to fit your Mk2 instead, as they are nice seats?

£489 for the pair is alright considering what old electric recaro's go for! you'd have to add the cost of subframes to that though.

you don't need to cut anything out of your mk2, just undo the bolt at the front and slide them out the back. the new seats should have a subframe available which should sit in the original fixings.

to be honest conker, i know a guy who has mk4 recaro's in his car and while they look great, they are too wide and sit too high... in my opinion. a decent second hand set seems to vary alot in price and its not the simplest seat to fit. mk3 recaro's are sweet and need only minor alterations, but still seem to fetch good money for a decent set.

Its not just £489... Theres a +£130 extra for the base I think if you look near the bottom.

Interesting point about the Mk4 Recaros - would like to see a photo of them installed. I just remember them being very comfy and supportive!

Height and bolstering are everything in seat installation, that's why the Scirocco seats I have are da bomb in a Golf2.
