Different Fuse box covers for 8v GTI?

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the fuse box cover on a 1991 8v GTI (J reg) and a 1987 one (E reg). I have been sent the latter (Ebay purchase) and it is very different to that on my 1991 GTI (about twice as deep-and hence won't fit)? Trying to check if I have made an error. VW Dealer cannot help as both items have been deleted from the VW Parts system.

This is the older one, if anyone can recognise it.
