Digifant fuel leak.
« on: 29 November 2008, 17:54 »
Getting an intermittent leak of fuel onto the fuel rail around the fuel supply hose.  Only seems to do it when cold.  Anyone had a similar problem?? Just wanna know if its worth ripping it apart tomorrow or should I be pricing up any bits (o rings, injectors?)

Yeah, just got a new length of fuel hose and clips and replaced it. Cost me £2, if that.

Use a proper fuel hose clip rather than a jubilee clip though, as you can over tighten and snap the fuel rail with a jubilee clip. :lipsrsealed:

Thanks .That's what I'm hopin.  Can't pin down the leak though.  Is it worth havin the injectors out and are the seals easy enough to do?

Ah, well on mine the leak was where the fuel hose joins the rail. You couldn't really see the leak, just smell it. Sometimes the fuel rail would look darker around that area, like it was wet, but didn't feel wet to touch.

The fuel rail is a bit fiddly to remove with the inlet manifold in place but can be done. I found getting it back in to be the hardest bit. I suppose it would be as good a time as any whilst you're messing about in that area though.

I had exactly the same problem with mine. It was where the fuel line joined the rail. I changed the fuel hose clip and also cut about 1cm off the end of the hose where it had perished. So far so good!

Mine also leaked when it was cold. I guess the rubber is less supple at low temperatures and may not seal as well?

Had this problem a few weeks ago. I changed the line for an 8mm one....still leaked...BADLY! I even changed the fuel rail thinking it was cracked. Dont bother taking the fuel rail off. Its only a hose at the end that the problem!

The rail can come out with the inlet in position but it is awkward.

Went to halfords and got the 7.5mm one and so far so good.

Make sure you use the correct hose size or it will leak and like in my case pop off in traffic. scarey  Had a full tank and it emptied in minutes
:)

Eeek.

Bin out for a serious look and indeed it is the pipe.  I have adjusted and tightened so we'll see how it goes.  I'll get a pipe from VAG as I'm on a mission for originality (bar the suspension)  Trouble is, this isn't easy as I have recently been laid off grrrrrr.

as said jusat chop about 1cm off the ends of the fuel line, refit with new fuel line clips and it should be all good :)
