Throttle housing 16v
« on: 01 November 2008, 18:44 »
Hi,
I think my throttle housing is a bit sticky - when i rev it some times the revs stay anywhere up to 2k when i use my finger but occasionally needs a nudge to push it home.  any ideas for rectification?

I've tried a bit of 3-in-1 but it doesn't seem to have achieved much.  will WD40 be more effective?

there all about the same. but i stick to wd40, does everything  try spraying the pedal box, where the joints are for accelerator pedal. i had it on my 1.6 when i first bought it, and a quick blast of wd 40 and never happened since.

all depends on how indepth you wanna go,

a good wipe round with a cloth will get rid of most,

if it continues then you might have to go more indepth.

Do mean the lever visibly doesn't fully return to the stop position, i.e. theres a definite gap, in which case...

1) Advice as per what the guys said above.
2) Try adjusting the throttle cable via the rubber bung on top of the throttle body to make it looser.
3) New throttle cable is an option as they can get stiff.

If there isn't a visible gap, it might be your idle switch (the rubber button on the throttle stop) isn't being pressed firmly enough which could give the high rev symptoms you describe as the ISV wouldn't be engaged properly. This might be cured with a new idle switch.

Pffft, the problem is far more likely to be inside the throttlebody.

Get the main inlet pipe off and have a look inside - including opening the throttle - £10 says there's loads of gunky black-brown rubbish around it.  You'll need carb/injector cleaner and a toothbrush to get it off and that should sort you out IF that's the problem.

More investigation needed, I think.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
