« on: 30 October 2008, 22:21 »
just fitted a new engine in my mk2 (1.8 16v) as mine had a bottom end shell bearing mishap any way engine in and running however there seems to be a fair bit of white smoke comming from the breather which sits on to the airbox also a lot of wite smoke comming from exhaust have checked coolant tank and rocker cover for contamination but looks good to me any ideas anyone could it be a bit of condensation in the engine think it was stood quite a while

How low has it been puffing out white exhaust? It should clear after a good run if it is condensation that's burning off in the exhaust

What he said. If the car still MOT, ie, when they check emissions, then run it quite hard for a while then change the oil. If the engine has been sttod for a while out of a car, then oil and/or moisture could be anywhere and take a while to burn off. If you still have smoking problems after say, 2-300 miles, then start looking at it again.

+1

At the same time monitor your coolant level. If it drops quickly you may have head gasket leak, as when mine went I had loads of white smoke coming out the exhgaust too. Not to worry you though, its far more likely contaminants in the oil (condensation etc.)

Plus I would change the oil sooner rather than later.
