What he said. If the car still MOT, ie, when they check emissions, then run it quite hard for a while then change the oil. If the engine has been sttod for a while out of a car, then oil and/or moisture could be anywhere and take a while to burn off. If you still have smoking problems after say, 2-300 miles, then start looking at it again.
