I'm new!!!
« on: 25 May 2004, 22:41 »
and since I am too lazy to look all the way through the forum I'm going to ask some questions that have probably been asked before.

Bought my 1.8T last august and its been fine so far, apart from the MAF sensor which was fixed under the warranty.  Hasnt been running brilliantly recently, but think a service might solve that, so going to get that done (at the main dealer, which won't impress a lot of people I guess, but it's still under warranty until August, and in fairness my local dealer have been good so far).

Question is........what do I do after that??!?!

Have bought some new rear light lenses but havent received them yet (is that a good thing??)

Was thinking of a turbo timer as I am not very good at letting it cool. Where from and how much? I am in Grimsby but dont mind travelling Leeds/Manchester. When I say not very good I mean terrible.

Have been reading about dump valves, and sadly I would like one that makes a slight noise, but not a massive whoosing noise.

Lastly the standard exhaust is always something thats wound me up as you cant see it or hear it (maybe thats the point) but would like something that you can see and hear!  What has anyone else got and is it worth it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Spencer.

ps. I sold a BMW to buy it, and I'm well happy!

Welcome aboard mate.

what kind have lights have you bought ? RCR's ? they look tasty on the right colour car.

Turbo timers ? don't know a thing about them sorry, but until you get that sorted, please please let the engine tickover for a good 60 seconds before you switch off ! killing the ignition cuts off the oil supply and the turbo can still be spinning at  200000rpm ! (previous owner of my car didnt do this, im now having a new turbo fitted)

The dump valve that makes the "whoooosh" that you want is known as an atmospheric dump/blow off valve, and really doesnt do any good for the air metering on our cars. infact i'm not aware of anyone thats done this successfully.

As for exhaust, most people go the milltek route, and those people are very happy with them. (you'll need a rear valance off a 4motion or anniversary model (depending which exit pipe you want) supplied by vw)

Finally... get it remapped ! you'll love the car even more and be leaving bmw 330ci's in your dust  ;D
