POWER STEERING FOR MK1 CLIPPER

Hi,there new to the gti scene but it looks like im going to have some fun , ive just bought mk1 gti and love its loads already but have a couple of snaggs which i would like to iron out first of all

power steering? The steering is very heavy for a small car is there a problem if so what could it b, or could you fit power steering to the car?

Clutch? very hard to push to the floor requires adjustment ?

Is there anybody out there who can give me some advice?

yes steering is heavy compared to power steering 

however, check tyre pressures! also do you have an aftermarket 350mm steering wheel?

wider lower profile tyres make a huge difference

my own mk1 has got 195/45 on ronal turbos and i when i had new front tyres i was told to run at 32psi but what really made a difference was fitting a 380mm nardi/votex steering wheel which allows greater leverage and is luuuuuuuuuuverly 

just remember that heavy steering at parking speed is a small price to pay for fantastic feedback and perfectly weighted steering at any other speed especially at 100+

you can fit power steering, but tbh it's a lot of weight as i understand. some mk1's did come with power steering as standard so it's possible to get hold of it for a price!

it was only left hookers that came with power stearing,so not much good for a right hand car,there is a few after market that make the kit's to convert.
you cud also place the electric motor out of a corsa(i think)or the nissan primra will fit,but a lot of work which ever way you go,so get used to the steering or put thiner tyre's on it with a bigger steering wheel

yep as said only LHD got it as a factory option, but there was a few places that did the RHD kit and it could be done thru the VW dealer too, so VAG approved!  THere is an FAQ on the clubngti site,m involves mix n match bits off a nissan bluebird plus some custom bits, and IIRC complete kits are available from TSR?

A lot of people are bolting the CORSA steering column into other cars at the moment.  Having worked on Vauxhalls and replaced a few (they ain't that reliable and stop power steering randomly, which is mega scary) they are very compact and wouldn't be too difficult to fit to a mk1 (a bit of cutting and shutting will be needed)  Also they are electric, and draw a lot of juice, so you will need an uprated alternator and become mega clever with electonics to figure out how to wire it up etc.

Or just pop down the gym and do a few weights...
