GTi 16v buying advice

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a 16v within the next few weeks and would like some advice on things to look out for.
Any help would be much appreciated

A VR6 is well and good if you have pots of petrol money and dont mind a high insurance premium.
Ive just bought a 16v and think its fantastic, beats the pants off my old 8valve even tho the gear change is a bit chunky but illl just get used to that. things to look for?... well i guess its just the same as what you'd look for in any golf. Original paint (Check the window rubbers for overspray), low mileage, no prangs (have a good look down the sides for wibbly bits and dents, don't view when its wet as scratches don't show up). But you probably new all this already! Just be sensible, if you dont like the look of it, don't buy it!

;D Got myself a mk3 16v a year ago, and i love it. There obviously not as beefy as vr6's, but its a quick car (nice top end) I'm glad i got a 16v, not an 8v cos there does'nt seem to be quite as many about, and like the man said, petrol costs must be cheaper along with insurance.

Totally aggree with the other 16V owners, its a great car and very relaible and not too bad on fuel.

The VR6 has a bit more grunt but its heavier......

I forgot to mention that the later 16Valves have the same spec brakes as the VR6 meaning that that thy have the larger brakes. and the later ones have a CD player as std.

Also something extra that the 16V has is a LSD, which helps keep torque steer to a minimum on foot to the floor sessions around mini round-a-bouts.

The 16V apparently has 30% more power than the 8V which I do believe thats what gave the edge when I bought mine, as well as the other extras.

I hope you like the 16V its worth the trouble of finding a good one.

I've driven mine throughout Europe and without a single problem and its been great fun also. :)

I think glenboy means electronic differential lock as this is what was fitted not a limited slip differential which was never fitted to this car. The 16V is a good car and if you haven't got the money to run a VR6 is the next best thing, obviously a chipped ecu and K&N air filter are compulsory as its a known fact that the engine is detuned.
