You sound exactly like I was when I was about to order mine mate.. Didn't want to order the wrong box and when getting it have a another one with the oppisite box come whistling past you..
When I spoke to Revo, they said that the map on the DSG ED30 has the torque pulled back a little (which had me a bit annoyed ) but when on the rollers, mine kicked out 360lb/ft on 2 seperate occasions, so if that's holdng back, i'd love to see what it would be like if they didn't...  The reliability issues/rumours seem to of been squashed with a number of seriously high powered cars running safely with no issues on DSG.
Mine has just Revo map and full TBE and Hurdy (the mod nutter) quite a few bits more (Fuel pump, FMIC, Intake, amoungst others ) and both seem to be running mint at min..
Like you say though, even if the DSG did have a very slight disadvantage in transmission losses, it's more than made up through the shifts..
What car you got at min mate?

Running a Bora TDI 150 at the moment, slightly modded to 247 BHP and 360 LBFT, so quite a bit off a mapped Edition 30's but quick enough for a Tractor. Looking for a change in job/location so if that comes to fruition, I would jump at getting back into a Petrol car early next year. I would buy used, always do and the only cars I really fancy are a 135i / 335i or Golf Edition 30 - The other half would fancy a TTS in Ibis white, but dont think they will depreciate enough to be in my price range.

135i is good for standing starts, but on the run E30 with 300bhp would be a challenger.
Check this table for in-gear times:

Of course, tuned 135i (360hp, 510Nm) would be something else!  :lipsrsealed:

TTS is über-exensive! They really charge for the image there!

335i is heavy, but it is premium product, lots of class and pizazz. But you'll need to tune it to fight off E30!
