MK3 VR Full of water. Help........
« on: 15 September 2008, 10:00 »
Hello everyone i have a mk3 VR and it has been stood for about a month as i have damaged my knee ligaments and cant walk never mind drive, i noticed some condensation yesterday so thought id open it up and air it out.
I opened the door and all i could see was the passenger side full with at least 3inches of water, my fiance got a jug and got the majority of it out (how nice of her). But i need to know where its come in?
Are there any drain holes which can get blocked, this has never happened before but i know how heavy the rain has been recently, i dont know what to do, its still soaking wet and dont know how to dry it out and how to stop.

Someone please help me!!

Long shot but all I can think off is that your scuttle panel is full of leaves and blocked the drain holes and it found its way into the car.

if it has a sunroof its prob te drainage holes that are blocked, each coner of the sunroof theirs some chanels, the front 2 come out near each door hinge, it looks like a little rubber tube, put a coat anger or wire up it...do both sides

Check the door seels as well,  possible but less common than the other things mentiond.

Also.. check the seels on the rear lights and look in the boot, sometimes it will run in through the seels down the boot then over the rear seats and collect in the foot wells.   but the scuttle panel area causes me problems so i would start there.

Hi, i checked all seals and think it is the rear lamp seals! I have ordered a new set of fleabay. So hopefully this will cure my problem.

Just a quick one, does it sound feasable that whe water will be getting in through the rear lamp and following the wiring loom and collecting in the pass. side of the car because thats the lowest point?
As the back of the lamp was soaking and the wiring loom was also, so got to let it all dry out, its a good job the batt. is disconnected as it hasnt been used for a while.

Thanks

Yea it does tend to run down the channels and collect there.   Sounds like you found the problem there, good luck with the new seels

terrible pun

when you come to be using the car FT again you might need to be removing the carpets and drying them out properly otherwise you'll end up with a pretty steenky motor
