i want to upgrade the cluster from my 91 golf gti to say.. maybe a newer one. is this easy or would i have to do a custom modification on my dash for it to fit?

has anyone else done a cluster swap?

if so what kind?

MK3 one will go in if you also fit the fusebox -> clock loom and jump pin D/8 to E/2 (see my fusebox faq)  you also need a speedo sensor from a MK3 with an 020 based rod box (basically all of em except 1.4 and 2.0 16v)
Corrado one will go in with your existing speedo cable, using the fusebox->clock loom again.

both sets will need some modification to sit in the mk2 dash, but shouldnt be too hard.

Alternatively you could update your exsisting clocks with a new face. Im sure you can get kits and that off ebay. OR these:

whoa all those things sound pretty complicated. unfortunately i am a novice :(

i have another question though.

i just put in bulbs for my speedo and tach from an 87 jetta with a newer cluster (identical as well) from a local pick and pull (the lights didnt work before)
an they still dont work

even after replacing all the fuses with new ones they still dont work.

is my cluster f**ked? a wiring issue? a relay? im stumped
