vr6 problem

right ive got a 1993 vr6
i start it sumtimes takes a whil and coughs and spluters  then i turn my lights on
i then go 2 turn my car off and i take the key out the ignition and the car still runs till i turn my lights off
what could this b

sounds like a common live issue or an earth issue. I ain't no expert but there must be a link between the light switch and ignition for say the lights on warning buzzer or something. maybe there's a stray wire behind the light switch???

If you left the lights on for say 5 minutes, will the engine keep running for 5 minutes ?
