USE YOUR RADIO?
« on: 10 September 2008, 09:15 »
Okay evryone,

I've just bought my mum a DAB radio, which set me thinking - I know TV is going digital and they are turning off the analogue systems, but are there any plans to do the same with radio?

I wouldnt have thought so... atleast not until all/most models sold are DAB (and a hell of a lot cheaper too!)

Good question, I can't remember ever reading anything about a planned date for switching off FM/AM radio but I am sure at some point they will look to move everything to digital  :undecided:

I'm sure I read somewhere we can get a DAB module for the Kenwood DNX 7200?

If that is right it would be good news for us  especially if they do move radio to DAB.

Just bought myself a DAB radio for the Kitchen, has a rewind function like Sky + which is handy for getting names of songs.

Apparently they are adapting the American Sattelite radio system for Europe too.

DAB radio is good but not the future, in fact many stations have pulled out of DAB in recent years. It's more likely going to end up being tied up with new wave telly and be streamed in via cable or wireless networks than traditional broadcasting methods.

Thats pretty much what I've heard to, DAB is expensive and not being taken up at anywhere near the rate hoped. I heard about this time last year it was on the ropes, but seems to have recovered a little. DAB is difficult to harness in a road car and has caused no end of problems for the engineers.

Still miss the integrale..........
