Help needed regarding heater on MK11
« on: 09 September 2008, 08:02 »
I have a J plate MK and the fan on my heater has packed up.
It was working intermittently , but has packed up completely. I have checked the wiring and it looks ok.
2 questions really , firstly any idea where I should start to find the problem( where is the motor for the fan ?)
Secondly , where could I get my hands on a wiring diagram or a hand book ?

Hi,

A general rule for electrics is to check the power to the unit and its earth. So, get a meter and (the blower motor is behind the trim above the passenger footwell) check you are getting 12v at the plug with ignition on and blower setting to full. If yes, then the motor is faulty and most probably dead.

If you are not, then check the fuse for the blower motor and check with a Test Lamp that you are getting voltage to the fuse. You should be, hopefully!

And secondly, Haynes or Bentley Manuals are pretty good.

Agreed with above, mine has made a noise like the bearings are falling apart for some time but has never actually packed up. Pretty easy to get at if you dont mine balancing n your head in the passenger footwell.

if you do a search you should find something about it as i am sure i have read somewhere on here about resistors packing in or something along those lines
a bit vague but it was a while back that i read it
to get to motor take lower dash trim off of passenger side and it is on the left with 3or4 wires coming out of it unplug wires and twist motor to release
