No Switched Earth to Coil - Is my Dizzy donald ducked

Hi,

The wifes car stopped working yesterday.  It just won't start.  AA came out and said that the coil was only getting live and earth not the switched earth.  He said that it was most likely to be the dizzy.  Are there any checks I can perform just to make sure that there is a dodgy connection somewhere before i start forking out wedges of cash on parts and labour.  (again)

Desperate for the car so bit the bullet and managed to get it to the garage.  They have diagnosed it (after it refused to show the same symptons for a while)  to be the crank sensor.

Lets hops that's all.  It has been a hard car year for me
