Hello peeps...Newbie here! Help already!
« on: 13 September 2008, 10:12 »
Hi everyone.

After years of wandering the wastelands of company car driving(yawn) I am pleased to announce a return to mk2 ownership.  After owning an 8v, 16v and a 2.9 conv, my fourth is a mint ,'blank canvas' '93, 8v  I am very pleased with it, the first golf I've had where everything works on it...  except..

Can anyone help me with a fuelling problem?  I thought initially it was running rich cos of the smell of the fumes so I've cranked the CO down to about 0.6.  The idle was bang on at 850.  However the car is still a bit smelly on the overrun with pops and bangs. I'm sure it sounds rougher/louder than what I remember from 8 valves. I'm still getting good mpg though.

It aint too much of an issue, but would like to get it running spot on.

That might be the problem itself  all those chips do is increase the fuelling. If you can whip that out and pop back in the original or source an original.

check for vacuum leaks such as the various vac pipes and the 'flying saucer' gromet on top the head

I don't think a semi will give the same results
