does a mk2 gti ecu have a safe mode
« on: 07 September 2008, 18:22 »
just a thought

ive been having a few problems with my gti when its cold (not running right ect)

now i come to start her up yesterday and now the oil light is on and the buzzer so the pump must be fooked

if the oil pressure is low when cold does the ecu kick in and make the car not rev when cold

might be a really silly thought but worth asking (my old metro turbo had a sort of safe mode if pressure was low) so thought vw might have done something similar

I don't think so. The ECU will only control the fuel and the ignition. It does have a safe mode if anything to do with these two systems goes tits...it will shove in the fuel as a get you home measure. ie, if you have a lamnda probe and that goes pear shaped, the ECU will make sure the engine still runs.
You can reset the ECU by un plugging the blue water sensor with the engine running, then rev the engine quickley 3 times in succession above 3000 rpm, then reconnect. That may help but I think there may be another problem.

i'll change the pump this week sometime as im sure it must be fooked and ill try that with the ecu

it just seems strange to have 1 problem then the pump goes at the same time

cheers
