MK3 8V Engine / Timing Problems
« on: 02 September 2008, 22:20 »
I have a N Reg 1996 Golf Mk3 8v 2.0 GTI

Ok, the problems i am having is the car is stalling when driving or coming to a stop.

The timing seems to be out a bit but the garage said that this should not cause the stalling

Some people have said it can be the Air Stableization Valve? or the IVAC?? or something like this i have been told it is a common problem.

The Main problem i am having is locating the area / part i need to find as i was told you are able to clean this part and it might fix?

If not please can any body link me in the right direction to fixing this problem, as its annoying and could also be dangerous! (as when the engine stalls the brakes aint as good and the power steering not as good)

Hope some one can help me!!

we'll its not the isv idle stablizing valve (as it dosent have one) and its true the timing wont make it stall...but this will stop it running well and make the rev limiter come in at 5000rpm....
First thing is clean the throttle body as this is virtually free (well some carb cleaner type stuff price)

and read this too http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=2080.0

This does sound a bit like a problem that i am currently having...

I have been told that it may well be the hall sender unit.  when i drive down the road it will be fine, then all of a sudden the revs drop to zero, all power ios cut and then it just rolls to a hault by stalling, i try and restart and its having non of it untill i leave it for a while.

but i have resulted to giving the plug a wiggle and moving the wires and then it starts up a treat!

(obviously this is pemporary and it does need fixing!!)
