New Tyres

Guys, hope you can help. I need two new front tyres for my 07 plate car. It currently has Conti Contact Sport 2's. Is it okay to put two new Contact Sport 3's on the front (It appears that Continental have replaced the 2's with the 3's as the 2's are no longer listed on their website) or would it be better to stick to the 2's which I can still get. Advice appreciated, thanks.

Tests show 3's out perform 2's. I've a pair of 'inherited' 2's on the front, and they are rubbish compared to the original Dunlops that they replaced. No probs though, with extra wheel spin the 2's enduce, they'll soon need replacing with Goodyears....

So in principle, two different (but very similar i guess) tyres on the front to the back is okay?

as long as they are the same on each axel it should be ok. Only AWD need to have the same on all four corners. I take it your in a Gti??

I have just replaced Conti 2's with Good Year Eagle F1 Assymetrics not really had a play with them yet only covered 10 miles or so. Got them as alot of people rave about them on here and they have good reviews in the dry and wet conditions also.

Shop around first I managed to get 2 fitted for £220. Some shocking quotes out there be warned.

The newer tyres should be on the rear in an FWD car and the older ones on the front.

This makes the car safer as it will be less prone to snap oversteer with more grip at the back.
