Help Please! Stereo Electric Problem
« on: 15 August 2008, 13:12 »
Ok I know I should have disconnected the battery before fitting the stereo. But I've just got the gti and it's got an aftermarket immobilizer that is set to paranoid. So I didn't want to mess it up by cutting the power.

Stereo worked fine when I tested it. Then when I fitted it back into the dash it just cut out. It did blow the 10 amp fuse under the dash so I must have short circuited something. The stereo is fine I tested it in my other car. I replaced the fuse and went about fitting the stereo again. But nothing, dead as a dodo. What could I have done. The 10 amp fuse that is in now is fine and the one at the back of the stereo is good to. But I'm not getting any power from the constant +, or the switched +.

HHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP Please!

Yep all correct as it was working perfectly before the fuse went. All I've done is connect the standard VW plug to the halfords adapter then onto the Sony plug. Does the VW wiring for the stereo have an in-line?

I dont think it does have an inline unless someones fitted one, I just ran a live straight from the battery to head unit (obviously with an inline fuse), you could try that ?

Right tracked it down a bit further. The Switched + is dead at the mo but the constant + is "A OK". So the stereo wasn't swithing on when the ignition was turned on. Where should I look next to fix the problem.

i've just plonked mine in after a previous owner had done a butchers job. i used the switched live from the black heater wire. i just scotch clipped it. its worked for me and works fine. i think its the black wire anyway just check it first.
