Serious brake problem...
« on: 19 May 2008, 11:17 »
Ok this is on the GTI im scraping but i need to know exactly what the problem is because im fitting all the parts to my other golf.

When i stick my foot on the brake pedal hard... Its fine, but if i gently push it down the pedal sinks to the floor!!!   It does it every time, just sinks to the floor with very very little braking effect if any,  you have to lift it back up and press it hard.

Now its not leaking any fluid so i suppose this is the master cylinder seals gone?  Any one know if its normal to work when pressed hard but not when soft?

Cheers.

I would suspect your master cylinder has failed

Another vote for master cylinder here too. Had the same on my camper a couple of years ago.

Yea because if i push hard on the pedal and hold it realy hard it never sinks to the floor so i suppose when its pushed gently it goes past the seals.

Cool.. will order a new one then.

Unless any one knows if the GTI master is the same as the 1.4 etc.. It looks the same but i would have thought it would be bigger on a GTI?!
