took off the front VW badge and then loosened of the front latch housing. Down it dropped about 5-7mm and hey presto!!!!

Just re-reading this thread - so did you not take off the front grille?  Because the VW badges are supposed to have "security tags" to stop them being removed from the front!  Or have yours snapped off?

....I wondered why I couldn't remove my oem VW front grill badge from the front when I swopped to a carbonfibre one! People on this forum were saying that front removal was easy!!

LOL.  Yeah, you are supposed to remove the centre grille (two T25 screws on the top, and two philips screws below the number plate which hide in the lower grille).  Then from behind - oooh errr  - you have to release a couple of tags on the badge, then rotate it before releasing it.  A bit like a light bulb.

This should tell you how: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=54324 - specifically - http://volkswagen.msk.ru/body/g5/g5_66-03.pdf

TT, I had no tags on mine, I just simply twisted, shuffled it about a bit to line up the slots and out it came. It was quite shocking that it came out so easily. Then again the front bumper has been fully off a few times and so the tags may have been removed on one of those occasions :undecided:
