stock to m3 style mirror swap info needed please?

ready to swap my stock mirrors for m3 style etc,got the right backing plates for my mk2 'h' plate gti etc,but the m3 mirrors are only cheap ones & dont have the adjustent cable etc!

so as im taking off the stock mirrors im wondering how do you get the mirror adjustment cable out of the door or mirror etc!

id sooner ask 1st for advice before i go & break something etc,so question can i take the cable out of the stock mirrors so i can keep my adjuster knobs in doorcard for show still instead of taking out & having a hole left or do i have to take the whole adjuster out & how do i do that etc?

you could just cut the cables when you remove the mirror and leave the cables in the door so it will still look standard and you can keep the mirror adj there.or remove all togeather and put in a gromet in the hole where mirror adj was?
