8v digi
couple of questions for you amazing ppl:

1. Would a set of 17 inch rub when on full lock if the cars been lowed on 30mm springs ?

2. When going slow over speed bumps i hit the 2nd backbox so have to go over the bump with one side of the car if that makes any sense. would having coil overs make the ride smoother ? it does get a bit bumpy all the time going over a 1mm defect in the road is a pain in the arse although this is the first lowed car ive driven.

3. I went to look at my mates mum and dads roof looked at my car and it had rolled down the hill in to one of there cars about 8 meters luckily no damage to mine had the front pads done for the M.O.T about two weeks ago guessing its because of that ive got a hayes but havent looked at it yet is it easy to adjust the handbrake?

4. Short version, fanbelt snapped,on motor way, blew the head. had it done and im taking it easy for 500 miles does the head need tightening after this ? some one mentioned it.

5. Last but not least gunna take it to a rolling road to be set up properly. got a kent cam or something like that. where would be a decent rolling road to south london/kent im moving to my bros in penge but dont mind a drive? also a guesstomation in price would be handy?

6. They took 0.022 off the cylinder head and the mechanic wasnt that confident about it making it a higher compression or something would the engine hold out for two years ? i drive like a twit sometimes

Thanks for any responses.

1. Probably, but it would depend on the profile of the tyre you are using.

2. Check the type of exhaust rubbers you are using. These Golfs use a specific type that both hold the exhaust very tight to the body but prevent the exhaust from banging on the bottom of the car. If you have the big 'O' ring type, then that is probably your problem.

3. Handbrake cable adjustment is not difficult, its just a little time consuming to get it right. Follow the haynes to the letter and you will not find any problems. The adjustment is done inside the car, but you need to jack up the rear of the car to be able to turn the road wheels.

4. You do not need to re-torque the head. If you do, you may snap the bolt as these bolts are 'use once' stretch bolts. IE, they stretch when torqued by design and therefore should not be used again. The final torque is a quarter turn after set torque anyway, so in effect, there is no final torque.

5. Google it!!

6. These are high compression engines anyway and you should be using 98RON fuel because of this. if the engine is set up properly, then I do not see any reason why the engine life should be shortened significantly. But an engine can last twenty years or twenty minutes, depending on how the engine is used or abused.
Because of the amount of material removed from the head, you may need to buy a vernier cam pulley to readjust the cam shaft timing more accurately. The rolling road should be able to advise you more on this subject.
