G60 Clocks

Hi Thanks for the reply

Acording to the DVLA I need MPH clocks to register the car (a letter from a garge to confirm the work was done along with headlights and a rear fog light)

The clocks do have the boost connection on the back so I was just wanting to swap the speedo face over, and my G60 clocks do not have the mph scale on the inside.

Hmm, Interesting. As with most things, this is becoming more ambiguous the more you look into it.

Which seems to mean it needs an SVA test

It states:

"That a speedometer has been fitted which is capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and

Hmm. My car has KPH only. I am wondering if the MPH clocks only apply to cars under 10 years old?

MOT is another thing altogether of course, and mine passes with KPH clocks only.

As I changed my view to be in my experience - I've not had any problems registering cars with kph only speedos.  The DVLA have never even asked to see the vehicle - provided the German registration documents are in order they're not normally interested.  That said I seem to recall there is a figure of 10% of imported vehicles that are physically checked at registration - this is when things like this would be pulled up and you'd have to sort them.

Thing is I suspect the people who they check are the young ones every time, which explains why I've not been bothered.  It's almost harrassment, I tell you.

Mine were already on the car, but since it was imported by AwesomeGTI in manchester I reckon they're a safe bet for the kits.

But make sure that you get the correct ones. 140mph or 160mph. The increments between the numbers will be closer together on the 160mph, than on the 140mph, therefore your speedo will read incorrectly if the wrong ones are fitted.

You need to keep the G60 cluster, as as said its got a special vac unit on the back to cope with boost.
Easiest way round the problem is to buy another set of MK2 clocks, and swap the speedo into the G60 cluster.  Much easier than stripping the speedo down to swap another face on it, and it doesn't matter what max speed speedo you get it'll read just fine

Early/late speedos will all work, but the mounting on the back for the voltage regulator is different so ideally you want one that matches your cluster.

My Rallye was imported from Germany in 1998 and it's only got kph on the dials. That's not to say that it shouldn't have mph on the dials. Maybe mine was imported before they put his rule in place.

Sorted it by swapping in a 160mph speedo from a 2 plug gti dash, did no fancy swapign the face as the speed would be mph and the distance in KPH
