Gamma Radio Problems.
« on: 13 May 2008, 22:27 »
I have got a std Gamma radio and have found that the reception is poor.  I have fitted a new aerial but this has improved little.  I've fitted an aerial booster into the back of the radio but again this has only improved a little.

I find that removing the roof aerial has little effect on FM reception but totally wipes out AM completely.

Can you gys think of anything else to try??? Is it the aerial cable that's at fault or the radio.  Will buying an aftermarket radio ressolve the problem???

This is becoming a bit of a pain to ressolve....

Please help!!!

Apologies for re-posting in this section "prev posted in Ice", thought I would be more likely to get a response.

This might sound crazy, but bare with me.  When I replaced an aerial BASE in my old 205 with a brand new item & reattached the aerial wire, I had even bigger reception problems!  It turned out that me over-tightening the nut that holds the wire in, had caused the problem.  I slackened it off a bit, & hey presto..............  Weird French electrics, I guess!!!

Take the interior light out & see if the Mk4 has a similar set-up, maybe??

**DISCLAIMER**  I've never looked at my Mk4 aerial base so I apologise in advance if this post isn't going to help one bit!!

Cheers Ivor - got the fault ressolved today - took it into place called car electronics in leicester and they tested the fault and fitted a complete new aerial inc base unit and all is good again.  I had been kinda hoping that it was the radio at fault so I had the excuse to purchase a nice little double dinn pioneer headunit I had my eye on.

I'm now thinking of spending the money saved on a remap...
