Sorry about that all. I wasn't slating the Eibach in any way, as I have used them on lots of previous cars with fantastic results. The only minor issue I have with them is the drop is very conservative on the GTI. 10-15mm drop is barely noticable, I would have fitted these if they dropped a little more

Although I would have probably been ok on my driveway if I had fitted the Eibachs first as last. :embarassed: Ironic or what!

When I saw Neg's car at Awesome I was convinced that the H&R -35mm drop was the way to go. Measured the car as standard and -35 would have been great.

Mine just seemed to go down a little more if anything. Measured them at 40mm drop on the back, and this was before they could settle in?? Manufacturing tolerances maybe. Car looked spot on though, I just need a better Driveway!

Are we talking just springs here?

I did read somewhere that the FSD's can raise the car slightly - 5mm or so.

....Unfortunately lowering the Mk5 GTI isn't helped by the long front overhang, especially if you have an aftermarket splitter! And my OSIR front splitter is not very extreme.

bling - I agree but I can't compromise my Koni FSD's by lowering further. I would have to change my shocks and springs and it's just not worth the extra expense unless my suspension fails and needs replacing.

are the fsd's better than the standard shocks? and how come you cant lower anymore on the fsd's? surely that means dropping the springs 25mm+ on standard shocks must be really bad then?

hey robin, if you could go back in time would you still choose the fsd's or go with a coilover.

i think id prefere the coilover even though the fsd's are very impressive i still think coilovers are the way forward.  :smiley:

....At the time, late 2005, Bilstein were the only choice for coilovers. I went to Ray West at Thruxton who is a very experienced racing car builder and driver and who was then running a very fast GTI on road and track (featured in magazines). Bilstein are very expensive and I don't do track or need to fiddle with adjustments so having driven another GTI with Koni FSD's back to back with mine it was an obvious choice. The FSD's are noticeably much better than the stock shocks.

I expect that if I was changing my suspension now, I would seriously consider coilovers and I do like the lower look :smiley:. I'd get Ray (West Tuning) and Jim's (JKM) advice though.

I think the FSD's are much better than the stock shocks - ok you might loose a little of this when lowered but overall you can't beat them - smooth on the motorway but stiffen up when cornering ... you cant ask for more.

For a 'fixed' (i.e. you cant alter) solution FSD's are the way to go and I would choose them again, coilovers are good but it depends what end result you are after.  I wanted something that once fitted just did the job as I wouldn't be touching them again.
