conlog alarm/insurance issues
« on: 07 April 2008, 16:17 »
Hey guys. Help needed. I bought my mk3 gti in january and am well pleased with it. I got a good price on my insurance but they keep sending me letters saying they have not recieved details of the security dvevice fitted to my car. This is fair enough as i didnt know what it was when i bought the car so ive never been able to tell them.

After much research ive discovered that the alarm is a dealer fitted conlog 850/950 full closure bla bla bla. It seems pretty decent but is a discontinued product due to the age of the car/alarm system.

Therefore i have no way of proving the Thatcham rating of this alarm and thus cannot prove owt to my insurance company.

The car is definately insured but the insurance company say they are unable to confirm that loss or damage caused by theft or attempted theft is included in the policy.

Does anyone have any ideas what i could do about this problem im pretty stuck??????

The insurer should know the thatcham rating of the alarm from their own database, but failing that you will need to have the alarm replaced. I'm fairly sure the conlog did have thatcham approval but not whether it was cat 1 or 2.

It might be worth giving VW Head Office in Milton Keynes a call to see if they can give you a definitive answer.
