best way to find a specialist is talk to them..most are helpfull and you can normally tell by the shi7 they say if there any good.... I found a local vw specialist (accordin to the vw mags he advertised in!!) when my gearbox broke on my old gti and he kept saying it needs a new box and after a few weeks of him not getting any where and not being able to say what the problem was....i spoke to an old friend who ran a vw place a few years back and instantly he told me what the problem was and £12 part later all was fixed!!
and i have found a vw spares place that i can call and tell him what my problems are and normally he's spot on with the diagnosis...shame he's not a mechanic

Great stuff! I'm pretty well hooked up when it comes to aircooled, but the whole Golf thing is still pretty new to me!

Thanks! :afro:

i'm the same as you 88. i know my bug inside out, know where to turn when it all goes wrong etc!

i use a back street guy, he has a really good reputation in the town, often the price he charges is less than quoted and he knows his cars.  he has also just taken on a guy who's into his mk2's! he has rebuilt 2 and is currently doing a 20v turbo conversion. think i better keep in with him!

if anyone is from the north lincs area i'll let you know the garage
