Wheel alignment & tracking issues.

Just had the old girl serviced, cambelt and clutch cable sorted  (£200) but I still haven't sorted out/rectified the age old problem I am having with the handling. 

The car has had a small rear shunt in the past, drivers side rear - not twisted the chassis, but the rear wheel looks millimetres further back on the drivers side (wheel arch) than on the other.  When (Kwikfit - useless bu**ers!!) a garage did the tracking last summer & autumn they used their laser guided tracking system to measure on all 4 wheels.  Is it possible this could throw out the tracking slightly on the front as they really didn't have a clue what they were doing, took it back days later and a different guy there said it was all over the place!!!

Can you move the rear wheel, or check its alignment?  Also why does it look like the front wheels are set a different verticle angles, and why do I get slightly more resistance turn the wheel (power steering) to go left, than to go right?  There is also a slightly lumpy feeling when stopping/ slowing down, not caused by the warped discs (checked), which may be caused by naff tyres, cheap indonesian which I will swap at some point soon.

Any advice, as my mechanic says its a great car it good condition (bar the rust in places) just enjoy it, but I am bothered by the issue and would like to know what I can check to make sure it is done properly next week when I get the tracking done and tyres changed.

Take the car to an independent specialist / tuner / motorsport place and get them to check the alignment.

hmm mine is more difficult turning right than left, plus the steering is sometimes "lumpy" and knocks/clangs. i think its the top mount bearings on one side.

also my "vertical alignment" of the front wheels looks out just like you've described. if you find a solution let me know!

The 'vertical alignment' of the front wheels is camber. This is adjustable on the bolts which hold the hub carriers to the front struts. Can be time consuming to get right yourself. A good motorsport garage should be able to sort it for you, not one of the high street jokers.

The high street jokers adjusted something by welding loose some bolts and although there was a slight tendancy to pull to the right, it was no where near as dramatic as it is now, also there is less feel especially at speed which makes me think the angles are incorrect -

Does anybody know the correct settings:
Camber
Toe
Etc....

For standard steel wheels and (14 or 15 inch) tyres?
