Engine mods for a 2.0l 16v ABF engine
« on: 11 April 2008, 08:17 »
Hi there guys,

Literally just bought a MK2 Golf yesterday which has had a 2.0l 16V ABF engine put in it. The engine has been gas flowed and port and polished, but i'm wondering what other mods were available.
I haven't owned a Golf before so quite new to all this. Believe the engine is out of the Corrado, as is the dash and seats.
Any help much appreciated.

Matt

Well the next stage would be to look at cams and valves, then throttle bodies.

tuuuuurrrbboooooo.

just to be different.

definately cams and tappets first. port and polish everything, although sounds like its been done already, but if i were you, i'd check if you havent already, cos seems strange someone would port and polish an engine, and not upgrade the cams... thats what i'd do anyways...

after that, the next natural stage is for it to blow up, then you buy a 1.8 20vt.

noble tuned - and still not fast enough!

Ok, Thanks for that!

Yer seems strange to me as he says the rest of the engine is standard - apart from the chrome rocker cover and manifold. This is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but do they do induction kits for this engine, i couldnt seem to find any...

Is it worth the cost? talking of which, how much and any idea of bhp gains..

Thanks

pretty sure K&N do incuction kits for everything... but i wouldnt bother, just drill the orininal air box on the un-filtered side, and smoother all of the internal box out, and get a cold air feed pip linked up, new panel filter, maybe a green one or whatever they are, i use K&N like, but that will pretty much do as much as you can filterwise. you'll only really notice a better throttle response.

plus these cone filters are genrally a bad idea, since they suck all the nice warm air from the engine bay, which is not what you want, you want cold condensed air, hence the air feed pipe i talked about. give your local ECP or GSF a bell, they'll sort you out with a panel filter.

not sure the abf came in corrados. also, a p&p  done badly can do as much bad as good.cant do valves on valvers without it being expensive because of the limited space also. first thing, service it, get it set up properly with a good exhaust (milltek/supersprint) and a panel filter. because the mk2 has no cat requirement, bet your looking at a good 165 hp just for letting it breath better.and also cam choice can be a little wilder because you wont be limeted on output emissions.look into the newman 268's

also what box you using? if its from the abf then you seriosuly need to look into getting the flywheel lightened. compared to mk2's they weigh an absolute tonne!
