I have a 82 x reg mk1 golf and I want to put a 2litre 8v engine out of a my spare 94 l reg mk3 golf gti into it. Will i need to use a different petrol tank or can I add a fuel pump to the existing tank? Also is there anything else I need to know before I start to pull these cars apart. The mk1 is currently running on carbs and not injection.

i thought it would because ov bigger engines going in them ie 16v/ g60/ and tt engines. as i know it will fit to the box as its the same as the one its running on now. the mk3 engine as got old type box as i changed that as the earlier box r close ratio and a lot stronger. so wat u sayin is that the engine is taller yeah.thanks

keep the existing fuel system, it'll work just fine. Are you gonna covert the engine to run on k-jet, or keep the electronic ignition?

im gonna try and run it on the electronic ignition if i can. but im a bit worried about the tank as it as not got a pump. the car as never run on injection it was carb as standard. mk2 pump should fit shouldent it.mk3 wont as it is inside the tank.thanks for your replys.

ok you'll need a lift pump from a late cabby/rocco, becasue the carb tank wont have the fitting on the side for a MK1 GIT main pump. The easiest way from there would be to attempt to fit a MK2 digifant GTI main pump & lines, then you'll have the correct push fit fuel fitting s in the bay that'll plug straight into the lines on the MK3 fuel rail. I've seen a MK1 16v done with the MK2 k-jet pump & lines, so I see no reason why the digifant one wont work, you'll just have to find a way to mount the pump to the car, shouldnt be too difficult
