Service milage
« on: 07 April 2008, 07:53 »
Just got into my car this morning to be told by the display that my car requires a service within 900miles. It currently has approx 9600 miles on the clock. Surely a first service within 10500 miles is a little soon. I drive my car resonably hard... but the dealer did say they shouldnt need to see it again until 20k???

Is this normal mileage for a first service??

I had the same issue with mine at the beginning of the year. When the car was PDI'd at the dealer they had set the service interval for 'annual' and not the 'long life' schedule (which depending on driving style/condition of oil etc should be around 20k).

Im presuming it's the same for an R32? I had to take it into the stealers and they re-set it. Took about 5 mins

I just wouldnt trust my dealers with something simple like that!! But surely 8 months is quite soon to have your first service.. Considering I have already poured over a litre of fresh oil into her over the last couple of months too.

She will drink anything the thirsty little cow!!

The joys of V6 ownership eh

Mine had only done 6k when the message came up, but I realised as it was exactly a year old.

From what I've heard about the long term effects of 20K service intervals, I'd get an oil change anyway. As you say, you drive quite hard, and for the sake of £60 or so, I'd give the engine some lovely fresh oil, just to be on the safe side.

Your probably right.. but i am tempted to get a friend to just give a quick oil change (with the castrol of course) and then see what the service computer has to say about that.

Im not really bothered about engine longevity as I only have the car til next september :smug: I was hoping to reach atleast a year, which would mean I only have to service it once before giving it back
