Thermostats?!
« on: 10 April 2008, 10:09 »
Hi, i have recently changed my thermostat as the car overheated when i put the front bumper back on..  I put it down to an air lock which was fair enough but i changed the thermostat to be sure, this made no diffrence.....  Today i put both the new and the old one in boiling water... and watched, i noticed neither of them opend untill it had been boiling for a good few mins!! Isnt it supposed to open at 80?  This could explain my problem.

No mater what i do.. the car overheats before the stat opens!!  drving me MAD  :embarassed:

Usually its 83 degs, its sometimes stamped on the thermostat itself. The only thing worth bearing in mind is if your water is at 83 degs, just because its bubbling doesn't mean all the water is at 83...

The fact its opening should be good enough.

I tryed a diffrent one and it over heated so im scrapping the car,  breaking for parts..   I dont usualy give up to easiliy but i was in a mood when i decided it and tbh its always going to be a bit tatty.  So if any one wants parts
