Mk 2 various
« on: 24 March 2008, 13:46 »
Hi all am new to this so here goes! I have just bought what seems to be a good example of a 1990 mk 2(Jan 90). It has a few problems and having never owned one thought this would be a good place to get a few tips.

1.  Rev counter and mfa only comes on after a quite long trip on the motorway.
2.  Heater does not work.

Any help on these would be most gratefull

Many thanks
Scotty

Check the earths on the cylinder head are intact first, otherwise your clocks are probably shot. ( I have spare set you can have for cost of P&P)

No heating means that previous owner has probably bypassed the matrix or the bypass valve has seized. Change the valve for another one before you attempt to change the matrix. whatever you do, do not decide to remove the valve without replacing (unless you replace it with a genuine MK3 matrix) as these were a VW recall solution to ensure that the weak heater matrixes don't burst hot water over your feet (this hurts I know!)
