Exhaust centre section query
« on: 14 March 2008, 00:20 »
The centre section is on its way out and will need replacing before before its next MOT. The system is standard except for the backbox, which is a Magnex.

I'm not sure if I want to keep it relatively standard or change the centre section. I've had a look on the usual websites for a 2nd hand part, but I'd like to know the answer to the following.

Is the centre section unique to the Mk 2 or is it interchangeable with either the Mk1 or Mk3. Is it the same for the 8v and 16v Mk2.

Car is a 1990 Big Bumper 8v.

Thanks in advance.

I thought Magnex back boxes only fit Magnex systems?  :undecided:

Anyway, in answer to the questions:

mk1 and mk3 systems won't fit the mk2 as the exhaust takes a different root under the car.

The mk2 8v and 16v bores are different from the downpipe back, 2" for the 8v and 2.25" for the 16v i think. Some aftermarket systems for the 16v reduce down to the 8v bore after the front silencer so the rear silencer (the bit that goes over the rear beam) and the back box are the same for both 8v and 16v on those systems.

Sooo, you're either left looking for a Magnex centre, a standard 8v centre or potentially an 8v Jetex or Supersprint centre as they are made to the same pattern as the standard system.

Hope that is of some help!
