starter nightmare

just got back from doin my mate starter motor on a 1990 gti 8v
what a fookin nightmare 3 bolts never had this much trouble with anything before
finally got it back together

i bet you forgot to support the engine with a jack :smiley:
its a 10 min job max

its easier than the 1.3 mk2 golf as the starter motor is at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold

yea mine was terrible! after about 3 hours of varying the engine height with a jack i removed the engine mount, got the grinder out and took the nuts off that are welded to the engine mount, then whacked it with a hammer. that made the job alot easyer. mine was a bit warped tho because the main engine mount part of the starter motor completly broke off so it was just holding all that power down with those those 2 inferior bolts. i think it happened when my mate threw it into reverse without the clutch in..

oh yeah the engine was supported but god know what happened. i was told it was a 10 min job by one of my other mates and he said exactly the same thing. guessin the jack dropped or something!

I forgot to jack mine up  :cry: took me an hour of jacking to get it to line up again... :angry:

Oh well, another lesson learned!  :smiley:
