  • its not a question, but a statement of life!
hi all

hope someone can help - ive got a stock mk4 1.8t gti, and have an intermittent problem with one lock when using the central locking button on the drivers arm rest.

when i press to lock the car, the lock pops down momentarily and then back up, even though all the others stay down.  if i leave it for a few minutes, and try again, sometimes it stays down, sometimes it doesnt.  there are periods where it works faultlessly...what is going on?!?

however, when i lock the car with the remote (or the key), it locks fine.  rarely, it opens on the first remote unlock with the drivers door.

an ideas/recommendations as to what needs replacing?

looking forward to your posts!!!!

Door lock mechanism in the passenger door. Strip the door and attack it with WD40 or pick up a used one from a scrapyard... unless you want to pay vw new prices!

If that was the case, why would it work with the key fob but not with the button?  Surely the mechanical bits in the door are exactly the same either way?

I'm curious, because the rear-left passenger door on my new passat does exactly the same  :undecided:  I'm not too worried at the moment, because it locks fine from the fob, but it would be nice to sort it out

It's one of the tell-tale signs that it's faulty, it's different on the keyfob because it deadlocks with one click, if you double-click to disable the deadlocks it sometimes pops back up too.

ah I see..  I may have to have a go at it sometime.  As long as it deadlocks with the fob I'm not too worried....  Just means I have to not rely on the door button if I'm driving thru a dodgy area and want to lock the doors

My girlfriends mum has a problem with her mk4 cabriolet (mk3)...

WHen she turns the key, the windows go down, which is really wierd.

So hes been having to get through the passenger side.

would abit of wd40 cure this?
what section of the lock is faulty?
or is it wiring?

It's not just that the key sticks in the 'open' position when she unlocks it on the drivers side?

On my VR6 if you hold the key in the unlock position it winds down the windows (just like if you hold it in Locked position it closes them - manual version of total closure alarm lol)
