Haven't been here for a looong time (been busy drug dealing ).  Looks like i've got some catching up to do!  As the title says, anyone tried fitting their iphone into the ipod connector?

You won't be able to close the armrest. However, the cablejive cable works a treat. I have mine connected to the cable, and it sits sideways in the armrest next to the slot rather than in the slot. Armrest then closes fine.

Factory fit is vertical in armrest cubby. Just slots in no problem. Came with several adaptor plates to suit the different iPod variants

Yes, but my ipodTouch is too tall. And the iPhone is taller still. There is no adaptor to suit the touch or iphone, and thus not only does it sit proud but it's not got any support on the front and back faces. Close the armrest and you risk all sorts of damage. So plugging a cablejive cable into the vertical slot in the armrest and then into the ipodTouch/iPhone then allows you to lay the touch/phone on it's side inside the armrest, in front of the vertical ipod connector, with a case on the touch no less, and still be clear of the armrest so it can be safely closed.

Your solution only applies to vanilla old skool ipods.

This is what I've found with my iphone, and although it does work ok, as the lid doesn't close fully, you can't then use the locked positions for the armrest as you have to shut it completely then lift up to position required, so with iphone/touch it just lifts up and down but won't lock, if you catch my drift
I've just ordered the jive cable, thanks zerolight for the info there! 2ft seems quite long though, will all that cable fit in armrest, shortest one I could find.

Quite correct, but that's the way VW designed it and that's why I got a nano to fit in there instead of the even older school CD multichanger

Does exactly what it says on the tin ! VW are not renowned to accommodate developing technology, look at how long it's taken them to change from the MFD CD/DVD Sat Nav systems and go with the current RNS510 hard drive units.

Agree it isn't future proof and see that the ipodTouch and iPhone are considerably larger. Tends to buck the trend of technology making things smaller these days
