Hmmm, Power or Name?
« on: 05 March 2008, 13:09 »
I have been offered all Oettinger products for half price so have been looking at a re map (stage 1?)  Very tempting, but looking around i can see that companys like REVO offer much bigger gains on a stage 1.

Question is, is the Oettinger remap any better than the REVO or similar.   :undecided:

As i have only had my GTI for a couple of weeks i dont know all that much about whats good and what just has a good name.  I hear lots about both but no direct comparisons.

Thanks
Ben

Oettinger are a big name within the world of VW tuning, I am not knocking Revo but Oettinger are a much more established company. If I were you being offered such a great deal there is no doubt I would go with Oettinger  Don't they offer 300bhp from a stage 1 remap anyway ?

Oettinger are a much more established company.

Indeed. Oettinger have been tuning cars for over 50 years.

....Although I have Revo Stage1 and am very satisfied with both their product and excellent aftersales service, most tuners publicise the upper power numbers and it's not often that they are achieved in the real-world.

oettinger are German TUV approved I think, and so are a major contender. Half price on an established good product is surely a no-brainer.

Ottinger is more than just a name. It's 50+ years of close work with VW. Ottinger developed first 16 (in1976) and 20-valve (in 1989) engines and the first 6-cylinder watercooled boxer engine (in 1986). They were first to work with TDI engine (in 1992).
I don't know much about Revo, but I put my money on Ottinger.

Looking at the Oettinger site (if im reading this right) the first stage of tuning gives 30bhp where as the REVO gives 55bhp + a shead load of torque.  I think that i will need to find out more about the gains with the Oettinger tuning.....

They do sound like the daddies
