misfire

just put a new headgasket on my old mans astra and done a full service on it to inc timing, but were still getting a misfire, anyone no what this could be?

i no this is a golf site but thought u mechanically minded lot might no,
I must warn you I'm about as decisive as a 5 yr old in a sweet shop!!  :grin:

Check the gaps on the plugs thay should be set from new but you never know  :shocked:

Seen a little trick to discover if it is the leads a while ago when my dads ford was missfiring, he took out the leads one at a time and plugged a spark plug into it and layed it down, then he got his mate to turn the engine over and see if the plug sparked,  he then repeated this until he found one of the plugs not sparking

did you align it back to top dead centre? I know you have to do this on mk4's, we changed a head the other week on my mates car
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)

Common problem with vauxhalls, but there's a relatively simple solution involving a can of petrol and some matches, a phonecall to an insurance company, followed by a visit to a VW dealership.
