reverse lights
« on: 24 March 2004, 15:02 »
hmmm my reverse lights have stopped working.  Kind of a nuisance when you have to reverse for people in the dark driving down country roads.  I dont think its a fuse because before they went fully the problem was kind of intermittent.  Now reverse lights are non existent though.

Is it the reverse light switch then? I would like to say that it will pass the MOT without them working, so i wouldn't worry TOO much!! I only really use mine for seeing behind when its dark, oh, and to bee seen!! If mine did stop working i could just put my rear fogs on, they're quie bright (i rewird it to be both sides).

Anyway, i digress, see if it is the switch. It tells you about it in the haynes manual. I would almost bet it was that.

Thats cool. I'm not sure how easy/hard it is to fix? On my girlfriends "car" its apparantly quite hard, so i left it as 1) its intermittent 2) its not required under law!!

i lost mine too, But oh well.

I had a woman panic yesterday when i was reversing slowly towards her car, I knew she was there and she started honking me and panicing. I got out and asked her what the problem was and she goes

"you have no reverse lights you mad man! how am i suppost to know when your reversing!?!?!?"

my reply was

"my car is big and black, This is a white slab car park at lunch time, I have a twin exhaust system thats louder than my sterio install, my car is a big 5 door, How the hell could you not see me reversing?!?!?!?"

The switch is a piece of piss to change ... peanuts from VW too!

It just bolts on to your gearbox ... come on you lazy devils sort it out !! ;D

I'm suffering from the same fault at the minute, and have found out that reversing lights are not tested in a MOT. It is however ilegal to drive a car on the road without them working.
