There is both theres the VW pump thing and theres there a moter one at the bottem as well that is locking the driver door? So I will try the new pump first thanks to OakeyDoak16v Cheers!!

I had the same problem with mine. The driver door would lock/unlock but the pump wouldn't operate. There is a switch built into the driver door solenoid motor which then operates the pump.

In my case, the switch must have been faulty. I replaced the motor and everything sprang into life.

The switch is built into the motor/solenoid in the driver door. You have to replace the whole thing. When I replaced that it cured it.

If you are handy with a multimeter then you can check the voltages of the wiring going to the vacuum pump. I can't remember off the top of my head what they should be but do a search.

I had another look to day and the moter at the bottem of the door has 2 wires and the thing that i though was the vacume thing is a kind of switch that slides which has 3 wire in so would i take all the wires from both a connect them to the new one from mapplin? Is so what ones go where Pic would be super
