Rough idle help
« on: 04 February 2008, 20:46 »
Anyone with VAGCOM in the Walsall, Cannock, Stafford area who wants to earn themselves some Beer money by plugging my 1.8T AGU engine in and seeing what fault codes come up.  When I 'thrash' my car or harshly accelerate with foot to the floor as I slow down and engage the clutch or take the car out of gear it is idling rough and sometimes even stalling.  Change the coolant sensor and cleaned the MAF but still no better so need to VAGCOM it.  Any idea if I can buy a cable that will work with the read only VAGCOM reasonable if not?

Cheers,

Chris

Hey mate,

I know a lad who lives just off junction 3 of the M5, as worked for VW for the best part of 18 years who fixes any of my problems at a fraction of the cost of a main dealer. I can have a word with him and if he's happy i'll give you his number??

With regards to your problem, i can had something simular. It sound like a possible issue with an injector/s. Does t feel like it is slower in acceleration?

If socould be the coil pack..?

With mine, someone hadnt bothered changing a faulty injector and tried to 'pack it' into position....caused a major carbon build up resulting in simular symptoms to yours.

Hmmm that's cool cheers!!

As for the suggestions I don't think so as it still has all the power with no obvious flat spots.  Just when returning to idle after toe down it idles bad then stalls.

Ok I have had the car diagnosed and I got one error code:

00561 mixture adjustment control

Suggestions please, I have cleaned the MAF but no success any ideas what it may be?

Cheers mate, I found this site earlier and am gonna have a look at all these points.  I have so far cleaned the MAF and no luck with it, sparkies and coil packs seem fine and the sparkies are clean.  Got a blow on the exhaust though somewhere near the turbo so will have to investigate.  Thanks again

No probs. Looks like the exhaust will be the the culprit if you have a blow.
