looking at the figures the 1.4 isn't that bad
i'd say go for the 1.6 16v is you can afford the difference group 6 instead of 4 but its comparable to the 2.0 8v GTI (which is group 10)
could also be worth looking into pass plus which will knock a fair chunk of your insurance
